Being Vegetarian is not enough

Being Vegetarian is not enough

Are you really a Vegan?

Being vegan doesn't mean just following a vegan diet. While a vegan diet is a vegetarian diet that does not include dairy products and all other ingredients derived from animals, a vegan lifestyle involves a lot more.

Most vegans avoid foods that are processed with animal products - which include honey, milk, gelatine, ghee, etc. But being vegan isn't just about what we put on our plates. As Elisa Allen, director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) put it - "It's a lifestyle that seeks to reduce the amount of animal suffering in the world."

What this means is that while people who eat a traditional plant-based diet might wear leather or fur, vegans do not.

Spotting a Vegan Brand

Vedaearth prides itself on being a vegan brand. The rising demand for eco-friendly and cruelty-free products, has well and truly spread to the beauty and wellness industry. Brands are adapting their ingredients to better reflect these customer demands.

Those who choose such a lifestyle need to know how to identify products and brands that share their principles. Anyone looking to buy a vegan product should look for the “Caring Consumer” bunny logo. All beauty and wellness products that proudly display this logo are cruelty-free. This means that they are produced without testing on animals.

While it is fairly easy to spot, a lack of awareness about the Bunny logo often leaves vegans feeling frustrated and neglected.

It’s your skin. Protect it!

While there are products that adhere to the ethical standards that prevent cruelty towards animals, some products have harsh chemicals that are so harmful for your skin that the damage caused can be long-term and sometimes, irreversible.

Any product that is applied to our skin has the potency to penetrate the body and get absorbed.

This means that as much as 2 kilograms of harsh chemicals from skincare and beauty products enter the average consumers’ bloodstream every year.

There is really no point to protecting animals while causing harm to ourselves.

It is imperative that we ensure that the products that we expose our skin to are free of parabens, silicones, mineral oil and petroleum jelly, Sulphates/SLS/SLES and all animal by-products. The demand for products that are free of these has created a market for vegan beauty and wellness products. So the next time you’re buying your products, just take a look at the ingredients used along with the “Caring consumer” bunny logo.
